In 1905 the Chinese who had continued the German service,

having lost all their capital, discontinued reunning leaving

the combination launches solely engaged in the service.

In 1906 the typhoon in September destroyed or damaged

the launches of Wong Lan Sang were badly damaged, and some

of Lee Kee's were lost and others damaged, and all the

Yau-ma-ti piers were swept away and the Hongkong piers

damaged, The combination were obliged to provide upwards of $30,000 to repair and provide for damaged and lost

launches and rebuild piers. The pier off Public Square,

Yau-ma-ti, destroyed by the typhoon which belonged to the

Government and the pier off Market Street, Yau-ma-ti, were

rebuilt by Wong Lan Sang.

In 1907 another typhoon occurred and Forty per cent of

launches in harbour were damaged or lost, The combination

had to spend $20,000 in repairing of their fleet.

In 1907 four other Companies the Wing Shun Company,

the Chee To Company, the Tuck Kee Company and the Wai Kee

Company, started a competing line, each Company contributing

one launch but having no reserve launch.

This service ran from Victoria Street Wharf which was

hired for the purpose to a pier near the Yau-ma-ti Police

Station which was hired for the purpose. These launches

ran at regular intervals and charged one cent as against

two cents which had always been the regular fare,

This compelled the combination to charge one cent also.

Prior to this competition the combination had made a

little profit but after the new competition and the reduced

fare it began to lose money and to avoid ruin Wong Lan Sang
